Celebrating Memorial Day

Celebrating Memorial Day is a lesson to help youngsters understand the true meaning of the holiday and the men and women it honors. Replete with resources, a Memorial Day Internet Treasure Hunt, and independent, whole-class, and small group activities, Celebrating Memorial Day offers the opportunity to comprehend and salute this important American holiday which was first officially recognized in 1868 as Decoration Day. (See the language of General Order 11 signed by General John A. Logan, Commander-in-Chief, Grand Army of the Republic at )

Rating: Excellent resources for pre- or post-holiday information and discussion.
