Farcus is a nationally syndicated panel comic that takes a look at the ridiculousness of life. It is The Far Side one day, Dilbert the next, its own man the rest of the time. It's a good comic that I enjoy.
However, I'm not here to review Farcus, the panel comic.
Farcus, The 1st Treasury is a pleasant little piece of nonsense that will brighten a drab desktop in a home or business environment. It's nothing fancy, just a bunch of cartoons bundled with a screensaver that displays them one at a time; a slick make-this-toon-your-wallpaper option; a browse-toons-by-category-at-random option; and a search feature to quickly locate your favorite knee slapper.
You can select the screensaver in your desktop properties. It will pop up cartoons from the CD-ROM in random or organized order, depending on your preferences. If you have another CD in the drive, it will run a few toons that the installation procedure copies onto the hard drive, along with a notification that the Farcus CD is not in place.
If you like a particular toon (the cow wearing an Eat Pork! button springs to mind), then you can display it and click the Wallpaper menu choice. A dialog screen pops up and asks you to confirm that you want to change your wallpaper to this image. If you do, then the program handles the rest.
If you are sitting at your monitor, and can't wait for your screensaver, then you can browse the cartoons by category or at random. You can bookmark if you like, and eventually wend your way through all 743 gags.
To sum up, this isn't Myst, but it is a cute little diversion. I recommend it for the alleviation of desktop drudgery.
